Loctite 96321 (PC 5070) Pipe Repair Kit 50mm x 1.8m

The Loctite 96321 kit is described on Henkel's data sheet as the Loctite PC 5070 pipe repair kit. It pairs a urethane-impregnated fibreglass tape, 50 mm x 1.8 m, with a one-use Loctite EA 3463 epoxy stick.

It is intended for temporary repairs to metal, plastic and composite pipes. It can also seal cracked castings and reinforce tanks, vessels, valves, joints and elbows. Henkel says it needs no tools or specially trained personnel, and the pipe can return to service within about 1 hour.

Selecting the right option

Using it

Turn off the pressure and dry the area. Abrade and clean the surface with oil-free solvent, over an area 3 to 4 times the size of the damage.

Knead the EA 3463 stick until it is uniform in colour. Soak the tape in room-temperature water for 20 seconds, wearing gloves.

Wrap at least 4 times, or 3 to 4 times the pipe wall thickness, whichever is greater, extending 5 to 10 cm beyond the repair.

Cure is substantially longer below 10 °C and shorter above 27 °C. Once cured, the repair can be sanded and painted.

Storage and handling

Store unopened in a dry place, with optimal storage at 8 °C to 21 °C. Storage below 8 °C or above 28 °C can adversely affect properties.

Limits and safety

This is intended as a temporary repair and cannot replace permanent pipe. Not recommended for pipelines carrying caustic, hazardous or otherwise harmful materials, for pure oxygen or oxygen-rich systems, or for chlorine or strong oxidising materials. Henkel states the tape and EA 3463 are not approved for direct contact with potable water. Read the safety data sheet before use.
