Mackay M164 Machinery Mounting Pad, 457 x 457 x 7 mm Neoprene

The Mackay M164 machinery mounting pad is a 457 mm x 457 mm sheet of oil-resistant neoprene, 7 mm thick and 1.7 kg, used under machinery to control vibration, shock and acoustic noise (manufacturer-stated).

Mackay gives a loading guide in kilograms per square centimetre rather than a single load rating: the pad is suitable from 0.7 to 4.2 kg/sq.cm, with 3.5 kg/sq.cm (50 psi) for optimum operation (manufacturer-stated). It can be cut to size with scissors or a knife and stacked in layers for more deflection.

Stacking layers

Mackay says to separate each layer with a metal shim plate of 1.5 to 2 mm thickness when more than two layers are used, and to keep the height of the stack less than the length or width (manufacturer-stated). The catalogue deflection graph runs from 0 to 3 mm against loading up to 7 kg/sq.cm.

Selecting the right option

Work out the loading in kg/sq.cm: the weight carried divided by the area of pad under the machine feet. Mackay suggests 3.5 kg/sq.cm for optimum operation, anywhere from 0.7 to 4.2 kg/sq.cm is suitable, and 1.8 kg/sq.cm for impact machinery. Allow 6 mm of pad beyond the machine feet.
