Selecting the right option

Match the punch point diameter to the pin or nail size being driven — a punch too small can miss or deflect. Use a ball-pein hammer of appropriate weight: heavier for large punches, lighter for fine work. CRV (chrome vanadium) construction gives better edge retention than plain carbon steel.
