1/2 in (15 mm) Forged Steel Globe Valve, Class 800, Socketweld | VGL800SW15

This AAP forged steel Class 800 globe valve has a forged ASTM A105 body and bonnet, a stainless steel seat ring, disc and spindle, and socketweld ends. It is supplied in 6 sizes from 1/2 in (15 mm) to 2 in (50 mm).

A globe valve regulates flow with a movable disc that closes down onto a stationary ring seat inside a roughly spherical body. The stem screws the disc onto the seat, so the valve gives fine control of flow, and AAP says globe valves are typically used where throttling and frequent operation are needed. Flow turns through the body, so a globe valve has a higher pressure drop than a gate valve of the same size. Confirm the flow direction with AIMS before you install it.

AAP gives a cold working pressure of 13,800 kPa (138 bar) and a maximum working temperature of 427 degrees C, with design to API 602, testing to API 598 and Socketweld to ANSI B16.11 (all manufacturer-stated). AAP lists the valve for high pressure steam, water, oil and gas. The pressure figure is the cold working pressure, so the allowable pressure falls as the temperature rises. Ask AIMS for the pressure and temperature rating if the valve will run hot.

The body and bonnet are ASTM A105, the seat ring, disc, spindle, gasket and gland are stainless steel, the bonnet bolts are ASTM A193 Gr B7 and the gland packing is Graphoil.

Options and part numbers

L is the length of the valve, H is the overall height with the handwheel and W is the width across the handwheel, as shown on the AAP drawing. AAP lists the 1-1/4 in height as 220 mm, against 205 mm for the NPT valve, so confirm it with AIMS if the height is critical.

Selecting the right option

Choose the size and the end connection, socketweld, to match your pipework, and confirm the pressure and temperature rating for your duty. AAP also lists the other end connection in the same sizes, and cast steel flanged globe valves for larger lines.
