4 in (100 mm) Cast Iron Y Strainer, Table D | VDIY94D

This AAP cast iron flanged Y strainer has an epoxy coated cast iron body and cover, a 304 stainless steel screen, a graphite gasket and flanges to AS 2129 Table D (manufacturer-stated). It is supplied in 2 sizes from 4 in (100 mm) to 10 in (250 mm).

A Y strainer is fitted in line to protect control equipment, instruments, pumps and regulators. Fluid passes through a perforated stainless steel or wire mesh basket held in a Y shaped body. The basket traps fines and solids, which fall into the leg of the body. AAP says the leg can be flushed out while the plant is running if a ball valve is fitted to it, or the basket can be taken out for cleaning when the plant is shut down.

AAP gives a maximum working temperature of 120 degrees C and a cold working pressure of 1,600 kPa (16 bar), and lists the strainer for water, oil and air (all manufacturer-stated). The screen openings listed by AAP are 1.5 mm diameter holes at 4.5 mm spacing for 50 mm to 150 mm strainers (33 per cent open area) and 3 mm holes at 7.5 mm spacing for 200 mm to 300 mm (44 per cent open area), so the 4 in (100 mm) strainer has the 1.5 mm screen and the 10 in (250 mm) the 3 mm screen.

Choose the size to match your Table D flanges, and check the hole count against your mating flange. AAP also lists a Table E version in 2 in to 14 in.
