CRC Gasket Stripper is a gasket remover, not a sealant. CRC describes it as a powerful formulation that quickly and easily removes tough bonded gaskets and most types of gasket adhesives and sealants, regardless of age or adhesive resistance.

It sprays on as an off-white waxy foam that clings to vertical surfaces. CRC's data sheet says it does not damage metal components and is safe for use on aluminium, steel and brass. It will remove paint, so overspray on painted surfaces must be avoided.

Selecting the right option

This product removes old gaskets and sealants. To seal after cleaning, see CRC Red RTV Gasket 85g or CRC RTV Silicone Select-A-Bead Sealant. CRC also lists CRC ADOS Stuff Off Adhesive & Paint Remover 8270 - 500ml as an adhesive and paint remover.

Using it

CRC's directions: protect any painted surfaces from overspray, as the stripper will remove paint. Shake the can well and hold it upright 20-30 cm from the area. Use with adequate ventilation.

Spray the areas to be stripped and allow to set for 5-10 minutes. Remove the gasket or cement with a putty knife; gaskets that remain intact can be peeled off.

Hose the metal clean or wipe with a clean cloth. A second application may be necessary to remove carbon deposits.

Storage and handling

Store cool and well ventilated. Do not puncture, incinerate or store above 50 °C. Keep away from direct sunlight, heat, naked flames, electrical appliances, lights and lighted cigarettes.

Limits and safety

Danger. Extremely flammable aerosol (H222). Pressurised container: may burst if heated (H229). Harmful if swallowed (H302), in contact with skin (H312) or if inhaled (H332). Causes skin irritation (H315) and serious eye irritation (H319). May cause drowsiness or dizziness (H336). Suspected of causing cancer (H351). May cause damage to organs (H371). The SDS lists dichloromethane at 30-60 %. UN 1950, Class 2.1. CRC's data sheet says the stripper will remove paint, and that aerosol cans conduct electricity, so keep them away from live electrical sources including battery terminals, solenoids and electrical panels.
