The Sutton T181 is a spiral point (gun) tap (VA designation) for BSPF (G) threads, made from premium grade high speed steel (HSSE) with a blue steam-oxide finish. This listing covers 8 sizes from G 1/8 x 28 TPI to G 1 x 11 TPI.
The gun (spiral point) nose curls the chip forward, ahead of the tap and out of the hole, so chip clogging is avoided and coolant can flow without problems. It suits through holes. The VA designation is for stainless and tough steels, with a high rake angle and thread relief, so the chip flows continuously in an axial direction. The chamfer is Form B (4.5 x P), for through holes in medium and long chipping materials.
The thread standard is ISO 228. The tap is built to DIN 5156: reduced shank with square drive.
