The Sutton T294 is a straight flute tap (XH designation) for metric coarse (M) threads, made from powder metallurgy, 11% cobalt high speed steel (SPM) with a TiCN coating. This listing covers 9 sizes from M3 x 0.5 to M20 x 2.5.
Straight flutes suit through or blind holes, but they hold only a small amount of chips and do not transport them axially, so deep holes are best avoided except in short chipping materials. The chamfer is Form C (3 x P), generally for blind holes.
The thread tolerance is 6HX.

Design features
- Powder metallurgy, 11% cobalt high speed steel (SPM). SPM offers very high red hardness, wear resistance and the highest compressive strength of any high speed steel.
- TiCN coating for abrasive materials such as cast iron and aluminium alloys, and adhesive materials such as copper and copper-based alloys.
- 4 to 5 flutes, depending on size.
- Form C chamfer, 3 x P.
- Thread tolerance 6HX.
