Sutton MO 69.75-85.00 mm Adjustable Hand Reamer - TCA
Available
The Sutton R109 is an adjustable hand reamer in TCA (Tungsten Chrome Alloy), with straight flutes, a bright finish (uncoated and polished) and a square end for turning by hand with a suitable wrench. It is a general-purpose reamer, and the point of an adjustable reamer is that one tool covers a range of hole sizes instead of a single fixed diameter.
There are 22 sizes, from MA8 (6.35 to 7.15 mm) up to MO (69.75 to 85.00 mm). The ranges run end to end with no gaps, so every hole diameter from 6.35 mm to 85.00 mm sits inside at least one reamer's range. Spares are listed for the larger sizes: replacement blade sets (R110) and adjusting nuts (R112) for MA to MO, and pilots (R111) for MA to ML. There are no separate blades, pilots or nuts listed for the smaller sizes (MA8 to MA2). Five sets (M1, M2P, M3, M6 and M8) bundle groups of sizes, and a pilot-only set (R111 MA1) is available.
Where this product is used
- Hand reaming of drilled or bored holes across a size range with a single tool.
- Toolroom, workshop and maintenance work where the finished size varies from job to job.

Getting a clean hole by hand
- Take a light cut. A common hand-reaming allowance is 0.08 to 0.13 mm. Too little and the reamer burnishes instead of cutting; too much and it is hard to turn by hand.
- Lubricate generously. A lack of lubricant causes tool wear and a poor finish (fix: increase the supply). Straight cutting oil is the usual choice in reaming because the aim is finish rather than cooling.
- Start with a good hole. A badly drilled hole is listed against all four problems (breakage, wear, chatter and poor finish) and the fix is to replace the drill.
- Keep it aligned, rigid and steady. Misalignment causes breakage and wear (fix: align the holes) and lack of rigidity causes breakage and chatter (fix: improve rigidity). Entering the work too fast is listed against breakage and chatter, and the fix is a slower approach feed.
