XL037 pilot bore timing pulleys in aluminium for XL section imperial timing belts. XL belts have a pitch of 1/5 in (5.08 mm), and the 037 in the XL037 code is the belt width, 3/8 in. The range covers 29 models from 10 to 72 teeth.

A pilot bore pulley is supplied with a starter hole, so you can have it bored and keywayed to suit your shaft. Pitch diameter, outside diameter, hub diameter, overall length and face width are listed for each model, along with the pilot bore diameter where the catalogue gives one.

Flanges are fitted as follows: two flanges for 10 to 34 teeth and no flanges for 36 to 72 teeth.

Selecting and fitting

Choose the pulley by belt section (XL), belt width (3/8 in) and number of teeth. Divide the driven teeth by the driver teeth to find the speed ratio. Both pulleys on a drive must have the same tooth pitch as the belt.

Pilot bore pulleys are supplied with a starter hole. Have the pulley bored and keywayed to suit your shaft, keeping the bore concentric with the pulley, and add a set screw over the keyway.

Fit the belt by moving the shafts closer together, not by levering it over the flanges or teeth. Set the belt tension to the belt maker's recommendation and check it again after a few hours of running.
