Lithium Grease

Buy Lithium Grease Online in Australia

Lithium grease is the general-purpose workhorse for workshop bearings, hinges, slides and chassis points. AIMS carries white lithium aerosols from CRC, WD-40 and Dy-Mark, white lithium from Morey Oil, EP lithium hydroxy and lithium complex greases from Anglomoil, and lithium complex from Rocol and Molybond. This is a focused slice of our full grease range; if you need moly, calcium sulphonate, food grade or marine greases, start there. Our Grease Selection Guide explains the types, NLGI grades and EP.

Check the product data sheet for temperature range, load rating and compatibility before specifying for a critical application.

Choosing a Lithium Grease

Plain lithium is the sensible default for general maintenance. Move to EP lithium or lithium complex when the bearing is heavily loaded or running hard, or when the equipment manual calls for it. The aerosol products are handy for hard-to-reach points, while the Anglomoil and Rocol products suit grease guns and bearing packing. Whatever you choose, match the NLGI grade to the equipment; NLGI 2 is the common workshop grade, and the softer grades (000, 00, 0) are for centralised systems.

Don't mix lithium grease with a different thickener type without checking compatibility, and clean out old grease when changing type. Over-greasing can overheat a bearing and push out seals, so follow the manufacturer's quantity and interval. For grease guns, couplers and fittings see Grease Guns, Grease Couplers and Grease Nipples, or browse Grease Equipment and Lubrication.

People Also Ask — Lithium Grease

What is lithium grease used for?

It is the general-purpose grease for workshop bearings, hinges, slides, latches and chassis points. White lithium aerosols suit exposed joints, and EP lithium and lithium complex suit heavier-duty bearings.

What is the difference between lithium and lithium complex grease?

Both use a lithium-based thickener. Lithium complex is the heavier-duty option for higher loads and harder running than plain lithium. Plain lithium is the sensible default for general maintenance.

Can I mix lithium grease with other greases?

As a rule, avoid it. Different thickener types can be incompatible and may soften or separate when mixed. Clear out old grease when changing type, and check the data sheets first.

What NLGI grade should I use?

NLGI 2 is the common workshop grade. Softer grades (000, 00, 0) suit centralised lubrication systems. Use the grade your equipment manufacturer specifies.

How often should I re-grease a bearing?

It depends on the bearing's size, speed, load, temperature and environment. Follow the equipment manufacturer's schedule, and re-grease sooner if the bearing runs hot, noisy or is losing grease at the seal.

Is white lithium grease the same as regular lithium grease?

White lithium grease is a lithium-thickened grease that is white in colour and commonly sold in aerosols for general lubrication. Check the product page or data sheet for the base oil and specification of the one you're buying.

Which brands of lithium grease does AIMS stock?

Anglomoil, CRC, Rocol, Molybond, Morey Oil, WD-40 and Dy-Mark.

Should I over-pack a bearing with grease?

No. Over-greasing causes heat build-up and can push out seals. Add the amount and interval the manufacturer specifies.
