B-Safe Professional Roofers Kit, Harness, Rope Line and Lanyard (BK061015PRO)
Available
The B-Safe Professional Roofers Kit, code BK061015PRO, is a boxed set for roof work. B-Safe's data sheet lists a harness with suspension trauma straps, a 15 m kernmantle rope safety line used with a high strength grab, an adjustable shock absorbing lanyard, an attachment strap, a steel twist lock karabiner and a backpack to carry it all (manufacturer-stated). It is for domestic roofing and commercial or industrial roofing (manufacturer-stated).
B-Safe's data sheet gives a capacity of 140 kg for one person and a weight of 6 kg. It says the lanyard is rated 50 kg to 140 kg, surpassing the requirements of AS 1891.5, and that the karabiner is manufactured to EN 362 and ANSI certified (manufacturer-stated). B-Safe's data sheet shows Global-Mark certification marks for AS 1891.5:2020 and AS/NZS 1891.1:2020 (manufacturer-stated). Ask AIMS for the certificates that apply to the kit supplied.
B-Safe's catalogue lists the contents as the BH01120 fall arrest harness, a 15 m rope safety line (BS010115A) fitted with a double action self-locking hook at one end and a manual rope adjuster, a 2 m attachment strap (BP03102, 25 mm web, rated for 1 person), a 2 m adjustable webbing shock absorbing lanyard with snap hooks (BL01112PRO-ADJ), an alloy steel twist lock karabiner (BSK0003-16), suspension trauma straps (BA00024) and the backpack (manufacturer-stated). The harness size is not stated, so ask AIMS which size is supplied.
B-Safe's technical guide says to inspect fall protection equipment before each use, to check the date of manufacture and the remove from service date on the label, and to take any equipment that has been used to arrest a fall out of use and return it to the supplier for inspection and certification, or destroy it (manufacturer-stated).
Fall protection equipment must be selected, installed, used, inspected and maintained by trained people in line with the manufacturer's instructions and the relevant Australian Standards. Ask AIMS for the instructions and test certificates before you order, and never use it for any purpose other than the one it was made for.

Roofers kit safety steps
B-Safe's catalogue gives a six step guide for the roofers kit (manufacturer-stated). (1) Set the ladder and establish the anchor, then connect the rope line using the attachment strap or the T-bar anchor. (2) Test the connection, move the adjuster knot end and throw it to the opposite end. (3) Relocate the ladder, pull the rope tight, put on the harness, connect the shock absorber or lanyard to the adjuster and squat to test the tautness of the rope line. (4) Climb the ladder, moving the adjuster as you climb to minimise free fall before the shock absorber would be deployed. (5) Take care when transferring to the roof and establish the restraint technique position. (6) Once the restraint position is established, work within a 60 degree arc and avoid pendulum swing falls. B-Safe adds that there is no substitute for competency based training.

Selecting the right option
Check with AIMS which harness size is in the kit and that it suits the wearer, and check the lanyard, rope line and attachment strap before each use. B-Safe's manuals say a rescue plan should form part of the use of fall protection equipment, because prolonged hanging in a harness while waiting for rescue could allow the onset of suspension intolerance (manufacturer-stated). A roofers kit suits restraint style work on a roof, not every fall hazard, so assess the job and train the wearer before use.
