B-Safe Roof Anchor T-Bar, 15 kN, Single Person, Metal Roof Sheeting (BSL5000)
Available
The B-Safe T-bar roof anchor, code BSL5000, is a steel right angle anchor, 400 mm x 350 mm, for fixing to metal roof sheeting (manufacturer-stated). B-Safe's instruction sheet for BSL5000 says it is designed and tested to 15 kN, rated as a single person fall arrest anchor under AS/NZS 1891.4, and should always be used with a travel restraint technique (manufacturer-stated). It is not fitted with an internal energy absorbing device, so an energy absorbing device must be used with it (manufacturer-stated).
The instruction sheet says it is suitable for users trained in height safety, on roofs of metal sheeting with a minimum base metal thickness of 0.42 mm in Custom Orb and Trimdek profiles with ridge capping secured by roof screws, for direct connection of personal fall arrest equipment for one person, with installation on the opposite side of the roof from where you are working. It says the anchor must never be installed on the ridge line or ridge capping of a roof (manufacturer-stated). The instruction sheet AIMS holds for BSL5000 is issued by Ballantyne Safety.
The instruction sheet says it is not suitable for fall arrest technique if the roof overhang exceeds 60 mm without training in height safety, for tiled, shingled, aluminium sheet, asbestos or decramastic roofs, for temporary horizontal lifelines, for lifting or restraining equipment, as an abseil anchor, or for connection by more than one person or more than one line (manufacturer-stated). It also says the roof sheeting must withstand a load of at least 15 kN for single point connections, that the anchor must be installed by a competent person, inspected by a competent person before each use and thoroughly inspected every 12 months, and that an engineer should inspect it in accordance with AS/NZS 1891.4 before it first enters service (manufacturer-stated).
B-Safe's technical guide says to inspect fall protection equipment before each use, to check the date of manufacture and the remove from service date on the label, and to take any equipment that has been used to arrest a fall out of use and return it to the supplier for inspection and certification, or destroy it (manufacturer-stated).
Fall protection equipment must be selected, installed, used, inspected and maintained by trained people in line with the manufacturer's instructions and the relevant Australian Standards. Ask AIMS for the instructions and test certificates before you order, and never use it for any purpose other than the one it was made for.

Selecting the right option
Check that the roof, the sheeting and the fixings suit the anchor before installing, and have a competent person install and inspect it. Connect it to a full body harness that has a fall arrest attachment point, and to an anchorage that can take the load. B-Safe's technical guide says an anchorage for free fall arrest must withstand a minimum of 15 kN for one person and 21 kN for two (manufacturer-stated). For a permanent purlin mounted anchor see the low profile purlin mounted anchor.
