B-Safe Self Retracting Lanyard, 2.5 m Webbing, Twist Lock Karabiners (BL05332.5)

The B-Safe self retracting lanyard, code BL05332.5, has 2.5 m of polyester webbing in a high impact polymer casing, with inertia locking, a top mounted swivel, an impact indicator, a built in energy absorber and two twist lock karabiners (manufacturer-stated). B-Safe's data sheet gives a capacity of 100 kg for one person, which it says includes personnel, tools and materials, and a weight of 1.4 kg (manufacturer-stated).

B-Safe's data sheet says the energy absorber is designed to reduce forces to less than 6 kN and the karabiners are ANSI with 16 kN gate strength. It says the lanyard conforms to AS/NZS 1891.3 and EN 360:2002, and that it is batch tested and visually inspected (manufacturer-stated). B-Safe's technical guide lists it as a type 2 fall arrest device (manufacturer-stated).

The capacity of this lanyard is 100 kg, lower than the 140 kg of B-Safe's inertia reels and harnesses. Check the combined weight of the wearer, tools and materials before you choose it. B-Safe's technical guide describes the karabiners on BL05332.5 as oval double action, while its data sheet says twist lock, so ask AIMS to confirm which are fitted.

B-Safe's manual gives the foot clearance needed below an inertia reel as total fall plus 1000 mm, where the total fall (free fall, activation and deceleration, 1.4 m maximum) has 250 mm added for harness stretch and slide (manufacturer-stated). Confirm the clearance for your own job before you choose a reel.

B-Safe's technical guide says to inspect fall protection equipment before each use, to check the date of manufacture and the remove from service date on the label, and to take any equipment that has been used to arrest a fall out of use and return it to the supplier for inspection and certification, or destroy it (manufacturer-stated).

Fall protection equipment must be selected, installed, used, inspected and maintained by trained people in line with the manufacturer's instructions and the relevant Australian Standards. Ask AIMS for the instructions and test certificates before you order, and never use it for any purpose other than the one it was made for.

Connect it to the fall arrest attachment point on a full body harness. Connect it to a full body harness that has a fall arrest attachment point, and to an anchorage that can take the load. B-Safe's technical guide says an anchorage for free fall arrest must withstand a minimum of 15 kN for one person and 21 kN for two (manufacturer-stated).
