Beaver Brake Hand Winch, 800 kg Pulling, 400 kg Hoisting (BHW1800)
Available
Beaver brake hand winches are hand cranked winches, often called crank winches, for pulling and lifting (manufacturer-stated). Each has a positive load actuated brake that Beaver says can hold the load in any position. This listing carries three sizes: BHW800, BHW1800 and BHW2600, with rated pulling capacities of 360 kg, 800 kg and 1180 kg and rated hoisting capacities of 180 kg, 400 kg and 590 kg.
The capacities shown are the lowest of the figures Beaver publishes. Beaver's website and one of its data sheets give higher figures for the same codes (370, 820 and 1200 kg pulling; 185, 410 and 600 kg hoisting), and the sources do not agree on rope details. AIMS has used the lower figures until Beaver confirms which is current. The hoisting capacity is half the pulling capacity on every size, so use the hoisting capacity for any lifted load.
Beaver lists each size bare (for example BHW1800) and as a wire rope version (BHW1800R). The codes AIMS holds are the bare codes, so confirm whether rope is supplied when you order. Beaver's manual and website state no standard for these winches. Beaver also lists a 550 kg BHW1200, which AIMS does not carry. Lifting equipment must be used within its marked working load limit (WLL), inspected before each use, and selected and used in line with your site lifting procedure and the relevant Australian Standards. If you are unsure what suits your lift, contact AIMS or a qualified rigger before ordering.

Key specifications
| Code | Rated pulling (kg / kN) | Rated hoisting (kg) | Brake | Max hand force (kg) | Gear ratio | Hub diameter (mm) | Handle length (mm) | Unit weight, bare (kg) | Wire rope (mm) | Rope storage (m) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| BHW800 | 360 / 3.53 | 180 | Single paw | 14.5 | 4:1:1 | 40 | 160 | 3 | 4 | 36 |
| BHW1800 | 800 / 7.84 | 400 | Double paw | 22 | 5:1 | 70 | 320 | 8 | 6 | 24 |
| BHW2600 | 1180 / 11.57 | 590 | Double paw | 19 | 10:1 | 82 | 320 | 10.5 | 8 | 18 |
Figures are from Beaver's Materials Handling Technical Manual (Vol. 4), where the BHW2600 pulling capacity is printed as '11801/11.57' and taken to mean 1180 kg and 11.57 kN, which fits the kilonewton figure. Beaver's website and its data sheet give BHW800 370 kg / 3.63 kN, BHW1800 820 kg / 8.04 kN and BHW2600 1200 kg / 11.77 kN (11.76 kN on the data sheet), with hoisting 185, 410 and 600 kg. Beaver's data sheet also gives different rope details: 7 mm for the BHW1800 (6 mm in the manual and website), 6 x 19 fibre core G1770 galvanised rope instead of 7 x 19 RHOL G2070, 26 m storage for the BHW1800 (24 m), a Ø80 hub and 10.3 kg for the BHW2600 (Ø82 and 10.5 kg), and 10 m of rope supplied with the rope versions. Beaver prints the BHW800 and BHW1200 gear ratio as 4:1:1, which may be a typo. Maximum hand force is printed in kg.
Selecting the right option
Choose the size by the heaviest load, using the hoisting capacity for any lifted load and the pulling capacity only for pulling, and allow for rigging. Check the wire rope size and storage capacity against the distance you need to pull. If you are unsure, ask AIMS or a qualified rigger.
