Black Rat Nylon Recovery Snatch Strap, 60 mm x 9 m, 9,000 kg MBS (342319B)
Available
The Black Rat nylon recovery snatch strap is a 9 m open weave mesh 'snatch-em' strap for recovering a vehicle that is bogged. Black Rat's data sheet says it is a heavy duty nylon strap with reinforced eyes and a 20% stretch factor for ease of vehicle recovery, and lists red overload indicator fibres on the codes in its snatch strap range (manufacturer-stated). This listing carries three sizes: 342319B (60 mm, 9,000 kg MBS), 342322B (75 mm, 12,000 kg MBS) and 342318F (60 mm, 4 ply, 30,000 kg MBS).
MBS is minimum breaking strain, which is a breaking figure and not a working load limit. Beaver's website lists the Consumer Goods (Motor Vehicle Recovery Straps) Safety Standard against the nylon straps (manufacturer-stated). The ACCC's mandatory standard for motor vehicle recovery straps requires a permanent warning label on the strap, the supplier's name or logo, a batch code or serial number and the minimum breaking strength in metric units, and says the strap must be supplied with instructions. It also requires advice that the minimum breaking strength should be 2 to 3 times the vehicle's gross vehicle mass (GVM) and that the strap must suit the lighter of the two vehicles. Check that the strap you receive carries these markings.
Beaver also lists a 2 ply 16,000 kg strap and a 125 mm x 9 m 60,000 kg strap on the heavy duty nylon recovery strap page. Recovery gear should be matched to the vehicles and the job, inspected before every use, and not used if it is cut, frayed, worn or damaged. Keep people well clear of any recovery that is under load, and follow the manufacturer's instructions. If you are not sure what suits your recovery, ask AIMS before you order.

Selecting the right option
Choose the minimum breaking strain to suit the vehicles involved. The ACCC's guidance is 2 to 3 times the gross vehicle mass of the lighter vehicle, so work from the GVM on the compliance plate. Join the strap to rated recovery points with rated shackles.
