Black Rat 4WD Tree Trunk Protector, 75 mm x 3 m Polyester, 12,000 kg MBS (342312B)

The Black Rat 4WD tree trunk protector, code 342312B, is a 75 mm wide, 3 m long polyester strap. Beaver's website says it is designed for tying off or anchoring a vehicle to a tree, and is used when reversing, steering up or pulling out of an awkward position, and that it comes with a carry bag (manufacturer-stated).

Beaver's page gives a minimum breaking strain (MBS) of 12,000 kg, a weight of 1.5 kg and a pack quantity of 8. Black Rat's 4WD Safety Recovery Kit data sheet lists the same size and MBS for the protector in the kit (manufacturer-stated). AIMS has no data sheet for 342312B, and Beaver gives no working load limit, so AIMS has stated the MBS only.

Recovery gear should be matched to the vehicles and the job, inspected before every use, and not used if it is cut, frayed, worn or damaged. Keep people well clear of any recovery that is under load, and follow the manufacturer's instructions. If you are not sure what suits your recovery, ask AIMS before you order.

Selecting the right option

Wrap the strap around the trunk of a live, solid tree at its base so it protects the tree from the load, and join it to the recovery line with a rated shackle. Check the strap is not cut or worn before each use. Black Rat's snatch block data sheet recommends a tree trunk protector or sling at the anchor point (manufacturer-stated).
