Selecting the right option
The three listings differ only in colour: white (8361), grey (8364) and black (8363). CRC's data sheet also lists a clear 300g version (8362), which is not on this page.
For a contact adhesive see CRC ADOS F2 Multi-Purpose Contact Adhesive; for a silicone sealant see CRC RTV Silicone Select-A-Bead Sealant.
Using it
CRC's directions: the joint surface must be hard, clean and free of dust and grease. Mask the joint edges with tape for a clean finish. Cut the cartridge at the top and screw on a nozzle cut to the joint width. Apply the sealant as evenly as possible.
If work is interrupted, release the gun handle and pull the piston back. Level the sealant with an appropriate instrument or a well soaped finger, and remove the masking tape before the sealant starts to harden.
Joint limits: width 6 mm to 20 mm, depth up to 20 mm. CRC says the sealant must not grip the bottom of the joint, so use polyethylene or polyurethane foam backing. Apply between 5°C and 30°C.
Storage and handling
Store in the original, sealed containers in a cool, dry, well-ventilated place.
Limits and safety
The SDS (30/07/20) does not classify it as hazardous according to Safe Work Australia criteria and gives no signal word. The SDS notes that formaldehyde may be evolved during curing or decomposition, which it describes as a skin sensitiser and as classified a confirmed human carcinogen (IARC Group 1), and that acetic acid may be evolved, which it describes as a respiratory irritant. It says over-exposure is not anticipated under normal conditions of use. CRC's data sheet and safety data sheet differ on the composition, so this page makes no silicone-free or non-acid claim. Read the safety data sheet before use.
Frequently asked questions
What joint size can CRC MS High Performance Adhesive Sealant fill?
CRC's data sheet gives a joint width of 6 mm minimum to 20 mm maximum and a maximum depth of 20 mm, with a width to depth ratio of 2:1 and a maximum of 1:1.
Can I paint over CRC MS High Performance Adhesive Sealant?
Yes. CRC states the cured sealant can be painted with most solvent and water based paints and varnishes.
What temperature can CRC MS Adhesive Sealant be applied and used at?
CRC gives an application temperature of 5°C to 30°C and a service temperature of -40°C to +90°C.
How fast does CRC MS Adhesive Sealant skin over?
