CRC Metal Armour 350g - Pack of 6
Available
CRC Metal Armour is a zinc-rich primer and sealer. CRC gives 85% zinc by weight in the dry film, and says it protects by galvanic action, stopping rust and rust creepage even when scratched or abraded.
It can be applied over bare metal or most surfaces, including painted surfaces, and can be painted over or left uncoated. It is listed here as a 350g aerosol (pack of 6) and a 1L tin (pack of 2); the two formats have different safety classifications, shown below.

Selecting the right option
CRC says existing rust must be removed or treated before Metal Armour is applied. To treat rust first, see CRC Rust Converter.
The aerosol is sprayed in light coats; the 1L tin is applied by brush, roller or sprayer. The aerosol is an extremely flammable aerosol, while the tin is a flammable liquid.
Using it
Surface preparation (CRC): existing rust must be mechanically removed or treated with CRC Rust Converter or a chemical treatment. The surface must be dry and free of oil, grease and other contaminants. CRC's data sheet says to treat rust with CRC Rust Converter first, then apply Metal Armour.
350g aerosol: shake the can until the agitator ball is moving freely, then for at least 1 further minute. Hold the can 15 to 20cm from the surface and apply 2 to 3 light coats to a clean, dry surface. Touch dry in 10 to 20 minutes, with 15 minutes to overcoat. When finished, clear the valve by inverting the can and pressing the button until only pressure escapes.
1L tin: stir before and during use and apply by brush, roller or sprayer. Touch dry in 20 minutes, with 30 minutes to overcoat. If thinning is required, CRC names ADOS solvent N or general-purpose spraying thinner.
Storage and handling
Aerosol: store locked up, protect from sunlight and do not exceed 50°C. Check the safety data sheet for the 1L tin.
Limits and safety
350g aerosol: Danger. Extremely flammable aerosol (H222), pressurised container (H229), skin irritation (H315), serious eye irritation (H319), may cause respiratory irritation (H335), may damage fertility or the unborn child (H360), causes damage to organs through prolonged or repeated exposure (H373), very toxic to aquatic life with long lasting effects (H400, H410). UN 1950, Aerosols, Class 2.1. 1L tin: Danger. Flammable liquid and vapour (H226), skin irritation (H315), causes serious eye damage (H318), very toxic to aquatic life with long lasting effects (H400, H410). UN 1263, Paint, Class 3, packing group III, marine pollutant. Read the safety data sheet before use.
