Selecting the right option
CRC says to pre-prime aluminium, stainless steel, brass, copper or galvanised metal with CRC Etch It Etch Primer for White & Yellow Metals 2110 - 400ml before applying Prime It. For a high build, easy-sanding coat over Prime It, see CRC Prep It Anti-Corrosive High Build Easy Metal Primer 2114 - 400ml.
Using it
CRC's surface preparation: remove signs of corrosion with a wire brush or emery paper or similar. If rust cannot be removed, treat the surface with CRC Rust Converter after thoroughly abrading rusty areas with a wire brush. Clean the surface with CRC Brakleen or similar degreaser if required. Where possible, abrade the surface with disc grinding, wire brush or sandpaper.
CRC's directions: shake the can until the agitator ball is moving freely, then for at least 1 further minute. Apply with smooth even strokes to a clean, dry surface, holding the can approximately 25 cm from the surface until the desired coverage is achieved.
When finished spraying, clean the valve by turning the can upside down and pressing the button until only pressure escapes. Clean up with mineral turpentine or spraying thinner.
Storage and handling
Do not puncture, incinerate or store above 50°C. Store in a cool, dry, well ventilated area, away from heat or ignition sources (data sheet and safety data sheet).
Limits and safety
Classified as hazardous under Safe Work Australia criteria. Signal word Danger. H222: extremely flammable aerosol. H229: pressurised container, may burst if heated. H315: causes skin irritation. H336: may cause drowsiness or dizziness. H360: may damage fertility or the unborn child. H373: may cause damage to organs through prolonged or repeated exposure. UN 1950, AEROSOLS, Class 2.1; flash point below 23°C. Not classified as an environmental hazard. CRC's data sheet says exposure to high temperatures may cause the can to burst and that aerosol cans will conduct electricity. CRC says protection in extreme conditions may require re-application more frequently. Read the safety data sheet before use.
