Loctite 435 Toughened Instant Adhesive 25ml

Loctite 435 is a one-part, low viscosity, rubber-toughened ethyl cyanoacrylate instant adhesive. It cures with moisture, needs no mixing, and bonds metals, plastics and rubbers as well as porous and absorbent materials such as wood, paper, leather and fabric.

Henkel describes the toughening as increased flexibility and peel strength with enhanced resistance to shock. The liquid is colourless to straw coloured and slightly cloudy.

Selecting the right option

Using it

Henkel says the product suits thin bond gaps (0.05 mm). Cure slows as the gap increases.

Fixture times in the Henkel data sheet are the time to 0.1 N/mm² shear at 22 °C and 50% RH, and vary widely by substrate.

Full chemical and solvent resistance takes at least 24 hours.

Store unopened, in a dry place, at 2 °C to 8 °C. Storage outside this range can affect the properties of the product.

Limits and safety

Not recommended for pure oxygen or oxygen-rich systems, or as a sealant for chlorine or other strong oxidising materials. The Henkel data sheet states no operating temperature range; the hot strength graph runs from 0 °C to 150 °C. Read the safety data sheet before use.

At 22 °C and 50% RH: under 5 s on nitrile rubber, 10 to 20 s on ABS and phenolic, 30 to 45 s on degreased steel and 45 to 60 s on polycarbonate.

How strong is Loctite 435?

After 24 hours at 22 °C, lap shear is 19 N/mm² on grit-blasted steel and 15 N/mm² on aluminium. Tensile strength on grit-blasted steel is 30 N/mm².
