Loctite 406 Instant Adhesive for Plastics and Rubbers 25ml

Loctite 406 is a one-part, low viscosity ethyl cyanoacrylate instant adhesive. It cures with moisture, needs no mixing, and its key substrates are plastics and rubbers.

It fixtures in under 5 seconds on neoprene, nitrile rubber, ABS and PVC, and in 20 to 45 seconds on degreased steel (22 °C, 50% RH).

Selecting the right option

Loctite 406 is the thinner of the two general instant adhesives here and is aimed at plastics and rubbers. For a general purpose grade that also covers metals and porous materials, see Loctite 401 Instant Adhesive.

Using it

Henkel gives 40% to 60% relative humidity at 22 °C for optimum results. Higher humidity speeds the cure but may reduce final strength.

On low-energy plastics, apply a Loctite primer before the adhesive. The data sheet does not name a primer number.

Fixture times in the Henkel data sheet are the time to 0.1 N/mm² shear at 22 °C and 50% RH. Allow 24 to 72 hours before the joint takes service loads.

Storage and handling

Store unopened, in a dry place, at 2 °C to 8 °C. Storage outside this range can affect the properties of the product. Henkel's US product page advises refrigerating before opening and using within 30 days of opening.

Limits and safety

Not recommended for pure oxygen or oxygen-rich systems, or as a sealant for chlorine or other strong oxidising materials. The Henkel data sheet states no operating temperature range; hot strength was tested from -40 °C to 140 °C and is shown on graphs in the data sheet.
