Loctite 55 is a white, non-curing pipe sealing cord. It is a polyamide thread coated with an inert proprietary paste, wound from the dispensing package onto the threads.
It suits metal and plastic tapered pipe threads and fittings up to 4" NPT, in industrial use with aqueous and non-aqueous fluids. It suits assemblies that need immediate use and may need slight readjustment: the joint can be adjusted up to 45 degrees after tightening.

Choosing the right option

Using it
Wind the cord from the dispensing package onto the threads. The cord does not cure, so the joint can be adjusted up to 45 degrees after tightening.
Approvals marked regional should be confirmed with Henkel's local Technical Service Center for your application.
The Australian Gas Association certificate gives a working temperature of -10 to 150 °C.
Storage and handling
Store unopened in a dry location. Optimal storage is between 8 °C and 21 °C. Storage below 8 °C or above 28 °C can adversely affect the properties of the product.
Limits and safety
Not recommended for pure oxygen or oxygen-rich systems, or as a sealant for chlorine or other strong oxidisers. The NSF, AGA, hydrogen and other approvals are regional, so confirm them for your application. Read the safety data sheet before use.
It provides sealing against cold water and compressed air on plastic pipe threads when applied properly in sufficient amount.
