Loctite 587 Blue Maxx Silicone Flange Sealant 300ml
Available
Loctite 587 (Henkel data sheet name: Loctite SI 587) is a one-component, metallic blue, oxime silicone flange sealant. It cures at room temperature on moisture (RTV) to form a flexible gasket.
Henkel lists it for gasketing and sealing in plant maintenance and original equipment manufacturers, and for typical automotive gasketing: valve covers, rocker covers, oil pans, water pumps, end seals, intake manifolds and rear axle housings. This is the 300 ml cartridge.
Where this product is used
- Form-in-place gaskets on valve covers and rocker covers
- Oil pans and rear axle housings
- Water pumps, end seals and intake manifolds
- Gasket replacement or gasket dressing
- Bonding and repairing fabricated silicone gaskets
Features
- One component, no mixing; moisture cure at room temperature
- Metallic blue oxime silicone paste
- Resistant to automotive engine oils, per Henkel
- Adheres to a wide range of substrates
- Enhances the load bearing and shock absorbing characteristics of the bond area
- Thixotropic, so liquid product shows reduced migration
- Typically used in applications up to 260 °C

Using it
Apply to clean, grease-free surfaces. Curing starts as soon as the sealant is exposed to moisture in the air, so assemble promptly.
Tack-free time is 10 to 50 minutes at 25 °C and 50 ± 5% RH. Full performance properties develop over 72 hours, and the cured values on the data sheet are measured after 7 days at 25 °C and 50% RH.
Excess uncured material wipes off with non-polar solvents. Excess cured material can be removed with a knife or single-edge razor blade.
Storage and handling
Store unopened in a dry location, optimally between 8 °C and 21 °C. Storage below 8 °C or above 28 °C can adversely affect the properties of the product.
Limits and safety
Not recommended for gasketing carburettors or fuel control devices in constant contact with hydrocarbon fuels (excessive swell), for sealing concentrated acetic, hydrochloric, nitric or sulphuric acids, for pure oxygen or oxygen-rich systems, or as a sealant for chlorine or other strong oxidising materials. Read the safety data sheet before use.
Frequently asked questions
What is the maximum temperature for Loctite 587?
Henkel states it is typically used in applications up to 260 °C. The data sheet gives no lower limit.
How fast does Loctite 587 cure?
Tack-free in 10 to 50 minutes at 25 °C and 50% RH. Full performance properties develop over 72 hours.
Is Loctite 587 suitable for carburettors or fuel controls?
No. Henkel does not recommend it for carburettors or fuel control devices in constant contact with hydrocarbon fuels, or for sealing concentrated acetic, hydrochloric, nitric or sulphuric acids.
What approvals does Loctite 587 hold?
NSF Category P1 (use as a sealant where there is no possibility of food contact) and UL classification E257711, Plastics & Components. Henkel lists both as regional approvals.
How do I remove excess Loctite 587?
Uncured excess wipes off with non-polar solvents. Cured excess can be removed with a knife or a single-edge razor blade.
What are the cured hardness and elongation of Loctite 587?
Shore A 26 to 40, elongation 350% or more and tensile strength 1.6 N/mm² or more (ISO 868 and ISO 37), after 7 days at 25 °C and 50% RH.
