Loctite 635 Retaining Compound 50ml
Available
Loctite 635 is a green, opaque, one-component anaerobic retaining compound. It is a dimethacrylate ester with a high strength class and a medium viscosity, and it fluoresces under UV light.
Henkel lists it for bonding rotors on shafts in fractional-horsepower motors, locking bushings and sleeves, and augmenting press fits. Activator 7471 or 7649 is the secondary cure on inactive metals, or where cure is slow or gaps are large.

Selecting the right option
Loctite 635 is a high strength retaining compound of medium viscosity. For other retaining compounds see Loctite 638 Retaining Compound 50ml, Loctite 609 Cylindrical Bonding Retaining Compound and Loctite 680 High Strength Retaining Compound 50ml. It is a retaining compound for cylindrical parts, not a threadlocker.
Using it
Use Activator 7471 or 7649 on inactive metals, where cure is slow, or where gaps are large.
Cure speed is given in graphs in the Henkel data sheet and depends on the materials, the gap and the temperature. Do not disturb the parts until sufficient handling strength is achieved.
Henkel states no operating temperature range. Hot strength is charted from 0 to 150 °C, and heat ageing at 120, 150 and 180 °C.
To disassemble, apply local heat to about 250 °C and separate the parts while hot.
Storage and handling
Store unopened in a dry location, with optimal storage at 8 °C to 21 °C. Storage below 8 °C or above 28 °C can affect properties. The data sheet gives no shelf life.
Limits and safety
Not normally recommended for plastics. Not recommended for pure oxygen or oxygen-rich systems, or as a sealant for chlorine or strong oxidising materials.
Frequently asked questions
How strong is Loctite 635?
High strength. Compressive shear is at least 20 N/mm² on steel pins and collars after 24 hours at 22 °C (ISO 10123).
How fast does Loctite 635 cure with an activator?
With Activator 7471 on one side, compressive shear reaches at least 13.8 N/mm² after 30 minutes at 22 °C. Cure speed otherwise depends on the materials, the gap and the temperature.
What gap does Loctite 635 fill?
The data sheet gives no clearance value. Henkel's India product page lists a gap of less than 0.15 mm.
How do I disassemble parts retained with Loctite 635?
Apply local heat to about 250 °C and separate the parts while hot.
Can I use Loctite 635 on plastics?
Not normally. Henkel does not recommend it on plastics, so test first.
What is the viscosity of Loctite 635?
1,500 to 2,500 mPa·s (Brookfield RVT, 25 °C, spindle 3, 20 rpm), which Henkel classes as medium.
