Beaver G2070 7 x 7 Wire Rope 6 mm x 410 m, Swaged Thimble Eye (708306X410)
Available
Beaver G2070 7 x 7 wire rope with a swaged thimble eye is galvanised steel wire rope with seven strands of seven wires and a wire rope core, in right hand ordinary lay (RHOL), listed by Beaver as dry lube and supplied on a reel with the eye at the inside end. This listing carries 6 mm rope on a 410 m length (code 708306X410) and 10 mm rope on a 620 m length (code 708310X620).
Earlier Beaver product text, held in AIMS records, describes these 7 x 7 G2070 thimble eye ropes as irrigation wire ropes for travelling irrigator equipment and other agricultural uses, with swivel hooks and fittings sold separately. The current Beaver listing gives no application, so check the rope diameter, length and eye against your equipment's specification before ordering.
Where this product is used
- Applications where a 7 x 7 G2070 wire core rope with a swaged thimble eye already fitted is wanted; Beaver lists no application for this item
Features
- Construction 7 x 7 with a wire core, right hand ordinary lay (RHOL) (manufacturer-stated)
- Grade 2070 galvanised wire (manufacturer-stated)
- Swaged thimble eye on the inside of the reel (manufacturer-stated)
- Wire rope core (WRC), listed by Beaver as dry lube (the term is not defined by Beaver)
- Minimum breaking force 27.2 to 73 kN across the range (manufacturer-stated)
- Each variant is listed with diameter, MBF, mass per 100 m and reel length (manufacturer-stated)
Reading the specifications
- Nominal diameter: Beaver says this is measured at the widest point of the rope (over the crowns). Choose thimbles, ferrules, grips and sheaves for the rope diameter.
- Construction: seven strands of seven wires each with a wire rope core (7 x 7 WRC). Beaver says a 7 x 7 rope is less flexible than a 7 x 19 of the same nominal diameter.
- Grade: the tensile grade of the wires in megapascals (MPa). Beaver says a higher grade gives a higher minimum breaking strength but also influences the life of the rope.
- Lay (RHOL): right hand ordinary lay, with the strands laid to the right and the wires in each strand to the left.
- MBF: minimum breaking force in kN, as listed by Beaver. This is not a working load limit.
- Approx. mass: kilograms per 100 m of rope, as listed by Beaver.
Lubrication
Beaver's manual says wire rope is lubricated at the time of manufacture, which reduces friction between the wires and strands and between the rope and the drum or sheave, and that the lubrication retards corrosion. Beaver lists this rope as dry lube and does not define the term.
Breaking force and working load
MBF is the minimum breaking force Beaver lists for the rope, in kilonewtons (kN). It is not a working load limit. Beaver does not publish a working load limit for loose wire rope, and the load a rope can safely carry depends on how it is terminated and rigged and on the safety factor your application needs. If the rope will be used for lifting, have a qualified rigger or competent person confirm the rope, the terminations and the working load limit before you order, and inspect the rope before each use. Beaver's manual has a working load limit table for standard galvanised slings made from grade 1770 steel core rope, with AS 1666.1 and AS 1666.2 cited in the table heading (manufacturer-stated). That table is for slings and does not cover the rope on this page.
Eye termination
Beaver describes this rope as dry lube galvanised wire rope with a swaged thimble eye on the inside of the reel. Beaver does not state a breaking force or working load limit for the eye termination, so the MBF listed here is Beaver's figure for the plain 7 x 7 G2070 rope of the same diameter. Do not assume the termination carries the full rope breaking force.
Key specifications
| Code | Wire dia (mm) | MBF of rope (kN) | Approx. mass (kg/100 m) | Length (m) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 708306X410 | 6 | 27.2 | 14.3 | 410 |
| 708310X620 | 10 | 73 | 39.4 | 620 |
Codes, diameters, breaking forces, masses and reel lengths are from Beaver's Materials Handling Technical Manual (Vol. 4) and the Beaver website. MBF is the minimum breaking force, not a working load limit.
Selecting the right option
Choose the diameter and construction for your application, then check the breaking force against the safety factor you need. Match thimbles, ferrules, grips and sheaves to the rope diameter.
