Beaver states the loadbinders are to AS/NZS 4344 (manufacturer-stated). Beaver's note, printed against its grab hook loadbinders: using grab hooks bends the chain link the hook engages and reduces the strength of the chain by 25 percent, so the lashing capacity of the system must be reduced by 25 percent as prescribed in AS/NZS 4344 (manufacturer-stated). The 25 percent figures in the table are AIMS's arithmetic on Beaver's LC.

Beaver states Grade 70 lashings and fittings are not approved for lifting. Do not use this product to lift or suspend loads; for lifting use a rated lifting product marked with a working load limit (WLL).

Key specifications

Figures are from Beaver's data sheet for these codes. Beaver's Materials Handling Technical Manual (Vol. 4) lists a larger g dimension for each code (9.5, 11, 12 and 15 mm) and the same values otherwise; the data sheet figures are used here. Beaver does not define dimension letters a, b, c, e, f and g; they refer to its diagram, and f and e are lengths with the loadbinder closed and open. Beaver's website says the winged grab hooks are needed to reach full lashing capacity, which does not match the 25 percent reduction printed in its manual; confirm the capacity to use with AIMS or Beaver.

Choose the loadbinder to match the chain size you are tensioning, then check the lashing capacity of the whole system, including the 25 percent reduction for grab hooks, against the load. The lashing capacity of the weakest part of the system governs.
