Loctite 3471 Fixmaster Steel Putty 454g

Loctite EA 3471, previously sold as Loctite Fixmaster Steel Putty, is a two-part, steel-reinforced epoxy repair putty that cures to a metal-like finish. The resin is grey and the hardener white; mixed, it is a grey putty.

Henkel lists it for repairing non-structural casting defects, making jigs and fixtures, sealing vessels, tanks and valves, resurfacing worn air seals and filling cavitated areas. Once cured it can be machined, drilled, tapped or filed.

Using it

Mix resin and hardener at 2.5:1 by volume or 6.25:1 by weight. Working life is 30 minutes and gel time is 35 to 40 minutes at 21 °C.

Apply at 15 °C to 30 °C, with the ambient temperature above 15 °C and rising, relative humidity below 85 % and the substrate at least 3 °C above the dew point.

Pre-heating the repair surface until it is warm to the touch speeds cure at low temperatures. Once cured the putty can be machined, drilled, tapped or filed.

Storage and handling

Store unopened in a dry place. The optimal storage temperature is 8 °C to 21 °C. Storage below 8 °C or above 28 °C can adversely affect the properties of the product.

Limits and safety

Henkel lists non-structural casting defects among its applications and gives a typical operating range of -30 °C to 105 °C. Not recommended for pure oxygen or oxygen-rich systems, or as a sealant for chlorine or strong oxidisers. Read the safety data sheet before use.
