Selecting the Right Loctite Product
- Anaerobic vs Cyanoacrylate: Anaerobic adhesives (threadlockers, retaining compounds, thread sealants) cure only in the absence of oxygen and presence of metal ions — they remain liquid in the bottle but cure when trapped between close-fitting metal surfaces. Cyanoacrylates (instant adhesives) cure on contact with moisture on any surface.
- Don’t Over-Specify Threadlocker Strength: Using high-strength Loctite 263 on fasteners that need regular removal will require significant heat (250°C+) or an impact tool to break the cure. Match threadlocker grade to required removal torque, not maximum retention.
