Critical chemistry rule: Anaerobic adhesives (threadlocker + retaining compound + flange sealant) cure WITHOUT AIR between metal surfaces. RTV silicone needs AIR + moisture to cure. CA (instant) adhesive needs surface moisture + bonds in seconds. Match chemistry to application. Brands: Loctite, Devcon, Epirez. Adhesives, Sealants & Threadlockers: Loctite, Devcon Epoxy and Epirez Industrial Repair Products
AIMS Industrial stocks a wide range industrial adhesives, sealants, and chemical fasteners from Loctite, Devcon, and Epirez — covering threadlockers (222/243/263), retaining compounds (620/638/648/660), instant adhesives (401/406/480), thread sealants (567/577) & plastic pipe sealant (5331) to cover almost every workshop application.
The AIMS Adhesives & Sealants Range
Our range is built around Loctite — the global benchmark for anaerobic adhesives and sealants — with Devcon and Epirez for structural and repair applications.
- Loctite Threadlockers: Loctite 222 (low-strength, removable) for small fasteners M6 and below; Loctite 243 (medium-strength, general purpose) for M6–M20 fasteners in general assembly and maintenance; Loctite 263 (high-strength, permanent) for fasteners subject to severe vibration where disassembly is not required. Select strength to match the disassembly requirement — over-specifying threadlocker strength makes future maintenance extremely difficult.
- Loctite Retaining Compounds: Loctite 638 (high-strength), Loctite 648 (high-strength, high-temperature), Loctite 660 (quick metal, for worn fits), and Loctite 620 (high-temperature retaining compound) bond cylindrical assemblies — bearings into housings, shafts into hubs, and bushes into bores — without interference fits or keys.
- Loctite Instant Adhesives (Super Glue): Loctite 401 (general purpose), Loctite 406 (for rubber and plastics), and Loctite 480 (impact-resistant, toughened) provide fast, high-strength bonding of close-fitting surfaces. Cures in seconds under ambient moisture.
- Loctite Thread Sealants: Loctite 567 (PTFE-free, medium-strength, metal pipes) and Loctite 577 (medium-strength, general purpose) seal threaded pipe joints in hydraulic, pneumatic, and fluid systems against leakage. Loctite 5331 is a structural plastic pipe sealant for PVC/ABS plumbing assemblies.
- Devcon Plastic Steel Putty: Devcon Plastic Steel A Putty is a two-component steel-filled epoxy compound for rebuilding worn, corroded, or damaged metal surfaces without welding. Sets to machinable steel-hard consistency — used for shaft and bearing housing repair, corrosion filling, and pump casing rebuilds.
- Epirez Epoxy Sealer & Patch Mortar: Epirez epoxy floor sealer and epoxy patch mortar provide durable, chemical-resistant repair and coating solutions for concrete floors, sumps, bunds, and industrial surfaces.
Selecting the Right Loctite Product
- Anaerobic vs Cyanoacrylate: Anaerobic adhesives (threadlockers, retaining compounds, thread sealants) cure only in the absence of oxygen and presence of metal ions — they remain liquid in the bottle but cure when trapped between close-fitting metal surfaces. Cyanoacrylates (instant adhesives) cure on contact with moisture on any surface.
- Don’t Over-Specify Threadlocker Strength: Using high-strength Loctite 263 on fasteners that need regular removal will require significant heat (250°C+) or an impact tool to break the cure. Match threadlocker grade to required removal torque, not maximum retention.

People Also Ask — Adhesives, Sealants and Tapes
Q: What adhesives, sealants, and tapes does AIMS stock?
Threadlockers and retaining compounds (Loctite range — see [Loctite collection](/collections/loctite)), structural adhesives (Loctite, Devcon, Epirez epoxy ranges), instant adhesives (super glue/cyanoacrylate), silicone sealants (RTV silicone gasket makers, building silicones), polyurethane sealants and adhesives, anaerobic gasket sealants, industrial tapes (PTFE thread tape, electrical tape, gaffer tape, double-sided tape, masking tape, hi-vis tape). See [Industrial Adhesive Types Guide](/blogs/product-guides/industrial-adhesive-types-guide).
Q: Threadlocker, sealant, or anaerobic?
Threadlocker: prevents threaded fasteners from loosening under vibration (Loctite 222 low strength, 243 medium, 263 high). Pipe sealant: seals tapered pipe threads against fluid leakage (Loctite 567, 577, PTFE tape). Anaerobic gasket maker: replaces traditional gaskets between flanges (Loctite 510, 518). Cyanoacrylate: instant bonding of non-threaded parts (Loctite 401, 406, 480). Match adhesive to application — wrong product fails immediately or doesn't cure. AIMS sales team can help identify the right adhesive for specific applications.
Q: Silicone or polyurethane sealant?
Silicone (RTV): high-temperature resistance, weather resistance, food-grade variants available. Good for high-temp gasketing (engine valve covers, exhausts) and weather sealing. Doesn't accept paint. Polyurethane: structural strength, can be painted, better for construction joints. Doesn't tolerate high temperature. For temperature exposure: silicone. For paintable sealing: polyurethane. For workshop daily use, both have a place — stock both general purpose products.
Q: What's PTFE tape used for?
PTFE (Teflon) tape is a thread sealing tape used on tapered pipe threads (BSPT, NPT) for sealing fluid systems. Wrap 3-4 turns in the direction of thread engagement (clockwise for right-hand thread when viewed from the tip). Don't over-tape — sealant gets compressed and can prevent proper fit. PTFE tape is workshop standard for water, compressed air, and gas pipe connections. Not for hydraulic high-pressure (specialty thread sealants preferred). See [Hydraulic Fittings Guide](/blogs/product-guides/hydraulic-fittings-guide).
Q: How long does adhesive shelf life last?
Manufacturer's expiry date on every container. Typical guidelines: Loctite threadlockers and sealants: 18-24 months from manufacture. Cyanoacrylates: 12 months opened, 18 months sealed. Epoxies (two-part): 12-24 months. Silicone sealants: 12 months opened, 24 months unopened. Storage matters — cool dry conditions extend life. Expired adhesives may have reduced strength or fail to cure properly. For workshop kit, rotate stock to use oldest first; for trade vehicles, replace adhesives annually to avoid using expired product.
