Choosing flow control products
Start with the job the valve has to do. Ball valves are the usual choice for on/off isolation, gate valves are used for isolation, globe valves are made for regulating flow, and check valves and foot valves stop flow reversing. Then match the end connection (threaded BSP or NPT, flanged, camlock or roll groove), the size, and a body material that suits the media and the pipework it joins. Threaded fittings need the right thread form: BSP and NPT are not interchangeable, so confirm what is on your existing pipework before ordering. For flanges, match the pattern in the product title to the mating flange on your line. Our globe valve guide covers throttling and flow direction in more detail. Flow control FAQs
What is the difference between a ball valve and a gate valve?
A ball valve opens and closes with a quarter turn of the handle, so it is quick to operate and easy to see whether it is open or shut. A gate valve is opened by turning a handwheel several times, so it operates more slowly and is generally used for isolation rather than frequent switching.
What are camlock couplings used for?
Camlock couplings are quick-connect hose and pipe fittings. A male adaptor fits into a female coupler and two cam arms lock it in place, so hoses can be connected and disconnected without tools. Both halves need to be the same size.
How do I match a threaded pipe fitting to my existing pipework?
Check the thread form (BSP, BSPT or NPT), the nominal size and whether you need a male or female thread. BSP and NPT threads are not interchangeable. If you are unsure, call us and we will help identify what you need.
Which brands do you list?
AAP and Dixon.
Can I get a quote for a larger order?
Yes. Request a quote or call us on (02) 9773 0122 with the part numbers you need and we'll check what we can supply.
