This AAP stainless steel 3 piece spring check valve has a CF8M stainless steel body, disc and caps, a 316 stainless steel spring, a PTFE joint gasket and female threaded ends. It is supplied in 6 sizes from 1/2 in (15 mm) to 2 in (50 mm).

A spring check valve closes with a spring rather than relying on gravity, so it does not need to be mounted upright. AAP says this valve can be fitted in a horizontal, vertical or oblique position. Flow opens the disc against the spring, and the spring closes it as flow stops or reverses. Like any check valve it stops reverse flow but it is not a tight shut-off valve, so fit a separate isolating valve where you need to isolate the line.

AAP gives a maximum working temperature of 200 degrees C and a cold working pressure of 6,895 kPa (68.95 bar), with a thread to AS 1722.1, and lists the valve for water, oil, gas, chemicals and corrosive environments and liquids (all manufacturer-stated). AAP lists it as a 3 piece design, with a body, a cap and a spring cap.

Selecting the right option

Choose the size to match your pipe thread, and check that CF8M and PTFE suit your fluid and temperature. AAP also lists a stainless steel swing check valve with a lower pressure rating.
