1/2" BSW Hex Nut, 316 Stainless Steel - XNUA412BSW
Available
The BSW Standard Hex Nut, 316 Stainless Steel is available in 4 sizes (5/32" to 1/2") and is a six-sided nut that screws onto a bolt, stud or threaded rod and is tightened with a spanner or socket.
You can choose from 4 variants, covering sizes 5/32" to 1/2". Pack quantities depend on size: packs of 100 to 200.
A4 (316) stainless steel contains molybdenum (about 2 to 3 per cent), which improves its resistance to chlorides. It is the grade normally chosen for coastal, pool, marine and food-processing settings, and it costs more than A2 (304). BSW (British Standard Whitworth) is an older inch-based thread found on older machinery and imported equipment. It is not interchangeable with UNC or metric threads.
Austenitic stainless steel is generally non-magnetic, although cold-worked parts can show weak magnetism. Stainless threads can gall (seize) when tightened under load or at speed. A smear of anti-seize on the thread and a steady tightening speed reduce the risk.

Selecting the right option
Match the nut to the bolt: thread system, diameter and pitch must all agree, and metric, UNC and BSW nuts do not interchange. Where a nut is tightened repeatedly, use anti-seize, because stainless threads can gall. For indoor and general outdoor use where chlorides are not a concern, the A2 (304) version is the lower-cost option: BSW Standard Hex Nut - 304 Stainless Steel.
