CRC 2-26 Electrical Multi-Purpose Lubricant/Penetrant 450g
Available
CRC 2-26 Electrical is a plastic-safe lubricant, penetrant and corrosion inhibitor in a paraffinic oil base. CRC states it helps prevent electrical malfunction caused by water penetration, humidity, condensation or corrosion, and restores electrical properties after water damage.
It leaves a continuous, self-repairing film 1-2 microns thick that seals out moisture, and CRC gives a dielectric breakdown of 42,000 volts. It is supplied as a 450 g aerosol, a 500 ml trigger pack and a 4 L bottle, which have different formulations and hazard classifications, so check the pack.

Selecting the right option
The three packs are different CRC formulations with their own safety data sheets: the 450 g aerosol is a flammable aerosol and a dangerous good, while the 500 ml trigger pack and 4 L bottle are not classified as dangerous goods. For a general-purpose lubricant, see CRC 5-56 Multi-Purpose Lubricant.
Using it
Submerged electrical equipment: spray liberally on every surface and allow 2 to 24 hours for the water to be displaced.
To protect metals: spray a light, even film. To loosen frozen parts: spray liberally and allow it to run off.
Use the extension tube for hard-to-reach areas. Repeat if necessary.
Test a small area first for colour fastness when cleaning surfaces.
Storage and handling
See the safety data sheet for the pack you buy, for handling and storage advice.
Limits and safety
450 g aerosol: Signal word Warning. Dangerous goods UN 1950, Aerosols, Class 2.1. Flammable aerosol. Pressurised container: may burst if heated. Repeated exposure may cause skin dryness or cracking. CRC's technical data sheet warns that deliberately sniffing or inhaling the concentrated contents can be harmful or fatal. 500 ml trigger pack: Signal word Danger. May be fatal if swallowed and enters airways. Not classified as dangerous goods. 4 L bottle: Signal word Danger. Combustible liquid. May be fatal if swallowed and enters airways. Poison schedule S5. Not classified as dangerous goods. NSF category H2 is not a food contact registration. Read the safety data sheet before use.
Frequently asked questions
What is the dielectric breakdown of CRC 2-26 Electrical?
CRC gives 42,000 volts. No test method is printed with the figure.
Does CRC 2-26 Electrical contain silicone?
No. CRC states it contains no silicone.
How do I treat electrical equipment that has been submerged in water?
CRC directions: spray liberally on every surface and allow 2 to 24 hours for the water to be displaced.
Is CRC 2-26 Electrical food grade?
CRC does not state that it is. CRC lists NSF Category Code H2 (registration 134907 for the 450 g, 134908 for the 500 ml and 4 L). This is not an H1 incidental food contact registration.
Which packs are dangerous goods?
The 450 g aerosol is UN 1950, Class 2.1. CRC's safety data sheets say the 500 ml trigger pack and 4 L bottle are not classified as dangerous goods.
What is the flash point of each pack?
The 450 g aerosol is 100 °C (liquid component), the 500 ml trigger pack 110 °C and the 4 L bottle 76 °C.
