Dixon FWG-922-88-60-G 3 x 2" (80 x 50 mm) Roll Grooved Mechanical Tee Galvanised

This Dixon roll grooved mechanical tee gives a branch off a grooved pipe run without cutting the pipe. A hole is cut in the pipe, and an integral locking collar and sealing gasket on the tee hold the outlet in place. The housing is ductile iron to ASTM A536 (manufacturer-stated).

The store lists nine sizes with a roll grooved outlet, from 3 x 2" to 8 x 4" (80 x 50 to 200 x 100 mm). Dixon rates every size at 300 PSI, gives the hole diameter to cut and a centre-to-end dimension for each one, and lists the range as UL listed and FM approved (manufacturer-stated).

Hole diameter is the diameter Dixon says to cut in the pipe. Dixon says the hole must be drilled on the pipe centre line, and the pipe surface under the gasket seating area must be free of blemishes, indentations and burrs (manufacturer-stated). Dixon also lists a BSP female threaded outlet version of the mechanical tee; it is not part of this product.

Selecting the right option

Match the hole size exactly to the table: the 4 x 3" tee needs an 89 mm hole, for example, and a 4 x 2" needs 64 mm. Dixon says the hole should be cut slightly oversize to the branch size so the locking collar and gasket can seat (manufacturer-stated). The run pipe must be plain and clean around the hole. A mechanical tee suits a new branch on a straight pipe; use a tee fitting when the pipe must be cut anyway.
